Free Trials
Below are the links to some free trial software like Kaspersky total security, Bitdefender, Norton antivirus, Nordvpn, Ghostvpn and more. Some companies may offer free trials of their software, but you will need to contact them via-email to receive a trial key that will unlock the premium features of their product, for the given time that they state. We have no affiliation with any of these companies, except for our own daily personal and business use, and have not been paid or offered any compensation to promote any of the following companies products....we just love using them and know you will to.
Anti-Virus
Ok so Anti-virus programs, what are they and how do they work, well keeping it as simple as possible an Antivirus is basically just an application. Kind of like you have the recycle bin on your desktop but obviously it does a whole lot more than just storing deleted files until you empty it. Some of antivirus features can include:
-
Maintaining and monitoring system resources - Keeps things running smooth and checks for abnormal activity.

-
Checks for system vulnerabilities - Some Antivirus software can scan your system looking for weaknesses in your operating system, applications and passwords and alert you to how to fix the issue, or just give you an option for the antivirus software to do it for you automatically obviously not your password though.
-
Stronger firewalls - Firewalls only let trusted and non-suspicious programs communicate to the internet.
-
System start up optimizers and other optimizers like disk cleanup, junk file cleanup - startup optimizers allow you to choose what applications will start when you turn your computer on, the more applications trying to start while windows is loading the first time you boot up for the day, will make windows take even longer to load. Windows has its own startup configuration menu too, but it doesn’t give you as much information as say Bitdefender. The other optimizers will clean up old system files, temp files, old windows updates and a bunch of other things to free up space on you hard drives which is a good thing. Again you can just use disk cleanup the is already in windows but it’s not as thorough.
-
Registry cleanup, registry backups - windows registry is a database that stores EVERYTHING your pc needs to find what it needs to run correctly, (like the hardware in your pc and where all your applications are installed etc.). Cleaning unneeded files will help your pc run smoother and have less things to check for that are not there anymore. A full system backup is recommended over just a registry backup.
-
Scan for known virus signatures - "virus-signatures" just bits of known or similar patterns in code that can resemble or mimic known Viruses or "PAYLOADS" ( "PAYLOADS" malicious software can that can give a hacker access to your computer with god like powers if your pc is exploitable or a virus that wants nothing more than to eat and destroy all your files until you pay someone for a decryption key, or worse there is no decryption key and everything’s lost forever).....(BACKUP NOW PLEASE!!), just remember to update your Antivirus application frequently.
-
Parental Control’s - with parental controls you can restrict certain websites on individual devices, you can choose when and for how long someone can use a device or the internet ( there are controls within windows for this too, but by using a online application like an anti-virus you can control all the devices you have from one PC. Kanda like lord of the rings one Pc to rule them all and you’re the one in charge) and a bunch of other safety options
-
Anti-Theft - this one’s fun you can remote wipe your device so a thief cannot break into it and steal your confidential content, remotely update devices so you can be sure the whole family has the latest and greatest updates protecting them, locate stolen or lost devices as long as the device has access to the internet like mobile data or Wi-Fi it can be tracked, Bitdefender even has options that allows you to text a mobile device with a pin number you’ve setup previously, along with a command that will tell the device to call the number you specify in stealth mode. This way you can see if you can recognize the thief’s voice and to see what they are talking about.
-
Browser protection and payment protection - Bitdefender and Kaspersky especially, have a feature called secure browsing and secure payment options which is what it sounds like basically. When you Google something and you get the results show up of like a thousand different webpages, ok not that many on the first page but you know what i mean, some antivirus application’s will scan the page results before you click on them and check a database of known safe and potential malicious websites and will alert you to safe sites with a big green tick next to them, or if their malicious sites they will be mark with a big red X/cross. This way you know your going to a legitimate website and there’s no nasty’s that are going to hijack your session. In some of our personal experiments in Bitdefender we also notice that some "Man in the middle attacks" don’t work when Bitdefenders on the scene. Because Bitdefender adds its own encryption layer over the browsers which is a very nice added feature. This basically means that if a hacker is on the same Wi-Fi or network as you they can’t steal your passwords and other private information by monitoring your internet connection and even if they can they still can’t decrypt the content.
Conclusion: There are many Antivirus programs out there claiming to be the best and some are going to be better than others. Some will have more features and may cost more so just do your research on the features you’ll need and make the appropriate decision or just call us and let us make the hard choice for you...it’s what we do best. Just make sure to update your antivirus software as often as possible.

VPN's
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) redirects your connection from the Internet to a computer somewhere else in the world run by a VPN provider. For example say you’re in Australia and you connect to an American vpn server, rather than your true location being disclosed ( Australia) your now as far as anyone can tell in America. The VPN server/computer becomes a secure launching pad for you to access various websites without showing your true location to your internet provider, government and or private organizations. It also encrypts your internet traffic on open public Wi-Fi hotspots and other Wi-Fi networks so your personal data can’t be snooped on by a hacker in your favorite coffee shop. Most people use VPN's to bypass regional internet restriction’s like torrent websites, Netflix and many more, for example if you live in Australia but want access to American Netflix, by connecting to a vpn server located in America you can now sign into your Netflix account as normal but you will connect to the American servers instead of the Australian servers, which will yield you more content to enjoy.
Below are a few links to some free trials, some companies require you to email them and ask for a trial code to activate the software for the given time. Others offer it with just a registered account from a legit email address and require no payment information to try.
There’s only a few things that you need to keep in mind when deciding on a vpn and that’s:
-
Do they keep logs or time stamps of customer browsing data.....we want this to be NO

-
How many VPN services do they offer like P2P, onion routing, double VPN etc....

-
Do they offer static or dynamic IP addresses

-
Do they offer port forwarding
-
And of course is it a good deal.
Another thing you may wish to consider when purchasing a vpn is does it allow port forwarding,
-
Port forwarding is basically a way to allow certain types of commutations over a network. For example games might need certain ports open to maintain a stable connection online, if the requested port is closed during a communication transmission/request then the packets are dropped which may ultimately disconnect you from your online game. Other reasons for port forwarding may be for your own remote access to your home or work computers, just be sure to have a think about what kind of services you'll need before investing or give us a call and we will take care of it for you.
